LRQA Levers CDP Strategic Partnership in Australia
19/04/2012
Read how LRQA is working with Carbon Disclosue Project (CDP) as their strategic verification partner for climate change management.
This week LRQA participated in two Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) workshops held in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia.
LRQA’s Climate Change Manager for Australasia, Richard Smith, talked about the CDP’s verification requirements and LRQA’s role as a CDP strategic verification partner. This topic was particularly timely, given a new Australian government requirement for verification in support of the carbon price coming in on July 1st this year and recognition from the CDP that the Australian framework was an accepted standard for the purposes of verification. Other topics included the emergence of climate change weighting in managed investment indices; the new GHG protocol scope 3 guidance; integrated reporting; and analysis to show that climate change management is a useful proxy for indicating good strategic management.
Senior managers in attendance included representatives from Aviation (Qantas, Virgin), Resources (Iluka, Alumina, Graincorp), Oil and Gas (Caltex), Rail (UGL), Investment (AMP Capital, Westpac, NAB), FMCG & Retail (Coca Cola Amatil, Woolworths, David Jones, JB Hi Fi) and Engineering and Construction (Downer Engineering, Worley Parsons, Fletcher Building, Mirvac, Dexus). Richard commented “it is great to be able to leverage our global relationship with the CDP to get in front of organisations that are unfamiliar with our expertise in this area. CDP have only recently established an office in Australia, so this has been a useful opportunity to cement our relationship at the local level early. For example, we were able to ensure a workshop was held in Melbourne by co-hosting the event, and we are already looking at additional events and webexes in the near future.”
