LRQA is the first certification body to get UKAS accreditation to NHSS 20, the National Highway Sector Scheme document for the Execution of Steelwork in Transportation Infrastructure Assets Highway Sector Scheme No.20.
NHSS 20 describes the QMS requirements needing to be implemented by organisations undertaking the execution of steelwork in transportation infrastructure assets.
It interprets the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 for this highway sector and is based on the requirements of BS EN 1090-1:2008 for conformity assessment of manufacturing operations.
In terms of scope, this Sector Scheme Document is applicable to the supply of new steelwork and for work on existing steelwork on new and existing assets.
It covers the design, fabrication, erection, dismantling and modification of steelwork.
It is applicable to the execution of steelwork undertaken in the workshop and on site as well as all the associated processes required for the execution of steelwork.
It also supports appropriate sustainability criteria and the associated health and safety and environmental controls.
Organisations may achieve registration to this Sector Scheme for specific services that they are competent to supply (e.g., welding, fabrication, erection) within the overall process of the execution of steelwork in transportation infrastructure assets.
This Sector Scheme excludes the corrosion protection of ferrous materials by industrial coatings which is covered by the related NHSS 19A, Sector Scheme for corrosion protection of ferrous materials by industrial coatings for which LRQA is also accredited.
