INOFOOD Chile Blog # 1 – November 8, 2011
Hello again, this is Vel Pillay Manager Food Programs for LRQA Americas, and this week I’m with my colleague Michael Ramdohr Business Center Manager of LRQA Chile and together we’re in Santiago at theINOFOOD 2011 International Food Safety Conference.
INOFOOD is the largest international food safety conference in Chile, and the event is packed with organizations that operate across the food supply chain in South America and around the world.
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of speaking alongside Roger Bont from Cargill and Neil Marshall from Coca-Cola. Together, we presented updates from the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and discussed practical implementation of FSSC 22000 in particular. Many companies around the world are experiencing the benefits of FSSC, including Cargill and Coca-Cola. Among the benefits of FSSC 22000 as a process-based approach to food safety, is that it offers food companies both large and small to integrate their food safety processes into all parts of their business, thereby providing a holistic approach to food safety management.
We had several great questions from the audience, and it is becoming more and more clear that organizations are looking to FSSC 22000 as their food safety management system standard of choice.
We also had questions and interest from food packaging companies interested in the expansion of FSSC through PAS 223.
