National OHS Audit Tool

What is the National OHS Audit Tool (NAT)?

In 2005, a multi-jurisdictional working party of regulatory bodies under the Heads of Workers Compensation Authorities was formed to develop an occupational health and safety audit program and a set of audit guidelines that were agreed at a national level. The National Self-Insurer OHS Audit Tool - User Guide and Workbook was an outcome of that process.

Who can use the NAT?

NAT is applicable to any organisation – irrespective of their size or geographical location.

Why is NAT certification important to your organisation?

NAT certification demonstrates to your stakeholders that you're confident in your organisation's ability to meet health and safety requirements. Not only does it highlight commitment to implementing, maintaining and improving health and safety policy, but it can also provide your organisation with a competitive edge. NAT certification also helps an organisation:

  • measure the performance of its health and safety program
  • implement a cycle of continuous improvement
  • compare its health and safety performance system to a recognised benchmark, and
  • gain recognition for the standards achieved by its management of health and safety.

NAT benefits with LRQA Business Assurance

Our unique methodology, LRQA Business Assurance, helps organisations manage their systems and risks to improve and protect their current and future performance.

Our technical specialists were instrumental in the development of the specification and as part of the Lloyd's Register Group Limited, which has been involved in the business of safety since 1760, LRQA is ideally placed to provide a range of assessment services to OHSAS 18001. And with the growing pressure in Australia for accountability in recent years, certification by LRQA is one very visible way of letting your stakeholders know you mean business when it comes to health and safety.
