CEMARS®
Certified Emissions Management And Reduction Scheme , CEMARS® is Australia's first internationally accredited Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions measurement, management and reduction certification scheme. It recognises the actions of businesses and organisations who measure their GHG emissions, understand their liabilities and put in place strategies to reduce emissions in their organisation and more widely through their supply chain.

What is involved?
CEMARS is a 4-stage process, which includes the following steps:
Measure your greenhouse gas emissions: CEMARS uses a data collection tool that allows auditors to efficiently review and verify reported data. This tool is compatible with the Commonwealth Government’s Online System for Comprehensive Activity Reporting and can be used to generate the reports required under the NGER Act. Equally, CEMARS auditors can use existing reporting as a basis for assessment.
Manage and reduce your emissions...and your costs: Making a commitment to manage and reduce greenhouse gas emissions at source is the most important aspect of CEMARS. Reducing emissions is most often associated with increasing efficiencies, decreasing operational costs and reducing potential risks and liabilities. Emissions reporting tools, guidance documents and examples of best practice help identify the most appropriate reduction options for your business.
Verify: Verification assures data and information is accurate and commitments to reduce are credible. Many organisations already have resources in place for measuring and reporting GHG emissions—CEMARS creates value from this existing investment by verifying that statements are accurate and calculated in accordance with international and domestic standards. This assures participants and their stakeholders that risks have been identified and that claims can be substantiated with confidence.
Market: Consumers are increasingly wary of carbon claims where organisations have not demonstrated proactive strategies to do something about their own emissions. The CEMARS certification assures customers and stakeholders that:
An organisation’s greenhouse gas emissions have been quantified to international standards, the boundaries are appropriate and the results and assumptions are publicly disclosed.
The organisation is actively working to reduce their emissions.
Claims made by organisations are consistent with all relevant guidelines including those issued by the ACCC. Claims are independently assessed by the Scheme certifier and surveillance is actively undertaken to ensure claims and logo use are legitimate and accurate.
Many organisations are interested in becoming carbon neutral. CEMARS helps you to first understand what your emissions are and what you can do to reduce them. CEMARS is fully compliant with the quantification and verification requirements of the National Carbon Offset Standard and therefore participants are set up for the next step to carbon neutrality.
